Caring for Your Invisalign® Smile

Posted .

Invisalign® is just one of the smile straightening options we offer our patients who have misaligned smiles. Invisalign works by using a nearly invisible orthodontic system consisting of a series of clear plastic aligners instead of brackets and wires to align teeth. With each set of aligners, incremental changes are made, as you change aligners every two weeks or so. In time, this sequential shifting of your teeth brings your smile into proper alignment.

Once our dentist evaluates your smile and determines that you are a good candidate for Invisalign, the aligners will be created and you will be on your way to straightening your smile in style. Invisalign aligners are comfortable to wear while being discreet because of their smooth, thin plastic material. Not only that, but they are removable so you can eat, brush, and floss, per your usual daily routine.

In fact, caring for your aligners is easy! You can soak your aligners in Invisalign’s cleaning crystals or with a denture cleaner to clean them daily. After your aligners are clean, just put them back in after brushing, flossing and rinsing with an antimicrobial mouthwash to remove any lingering bacteria. Freshening your aligners can be done anytime by removing them and rinsing with clear antibacterial soap. Just be sure to remove all soapy residue on the aligners before putting them back in your mouth.
